Our Squamata design is based on the Roman lorica squamata, an armor comprised of small iron or bronze overlapping scales sewn to a cloth backing. Used during the Roman Republic, lorica squamata is typically depicted as being worn by military units including regular legionaries, standard bearers, centurions, cavalry, and auxiliary infantry.

Our Kikko design is based on the eponymous style of Japanese armor most common in the Edo period. Consisting of hexagonal iron or hardened leather plates attached by chain and sewn onto a cloth lining, kikko was most commonly incorporated into suneate (greaves) and tate-eri (shoulder protection), though they could be used to reinforce other parts of the gusoku as well.

Historically, the dragon was the symbol of imperial power in ancient China. The emperor, as well as his high-ranking officials, often wore robes decorated with the serpentine creatures. But not all dragons are created equal: specifically, dragons with five claws were only to be worn by the Emperor, Son of Heaven, himself, while four claws denoted lower nobility. May the imperial dragons twisting their way through this design imbue you with the same prosperity!

Our Hauberk design is based on European 4-in-1 riveted mail (colloquially, chainmail), a military staple from the Iron and Middle Ages all through the 16th century. Before it was supplanted by plate, mail was synonymous with armor. For centuries it was incredibly valuable, expensive and time-consuming to produce—oftentimes the easiest way to acquire it was to pry it off someone else. Good thing you don't have to loot this hoodie off a dead body to get your hands on it. ;)
